Bandhakobi (Cabbage)-Bengali style

” Aaj ker Lunch e ki” (whats for lunch) , voice coming from the hall.It was hubby darling and his first question when he wakes up every morning :-).

It’s Bandhakobi (Cabbage) ,(Lentils) dal ,Alu (potato fry) bhaja and Chingri (Prawn) Malai Curry. Hubby is pleased as it is one of his favorite menu.

I have already introduced you  with my  Prawn Curry ,today’s recipe will be Bandhakobi (Cabbage curry). I learnt this recipe from my mother and she learnt it from her mother in law.Hence i call this recipe , “Go Grandma” recipe and hope to pass it on and on.

Here goes the recipe :-

INGREDIENTS

1. 1 Cabbage (thinly sliced).

2. 1  Potato ( cubed).

3 . 1 Tomato (cubed).

4. Coriander leaves.

5.2 Chilli (slit in between).

6.1 Teaspoon Cumin Powder

7.1 Teaspoon Coriander Powder.

8. 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder

9. 1 Teaspoon Salt.

10.Oil.

11.Bay leaves (1)

12.1 Teaspoon Cumin seeds

13.1 Teaspoon ginger paste.

14.1 Teaspoon garam masala

15.1 Teaspoon sugar.

DIRECTIONS

1.In a pan take oil (little) .

2.Fry Potatoes/Alu.

3.Take the potatoes out and put it on a tissue paper.

4.In the small bowl mix cumin pwd,coriander pwd,turmeric powder, salt,sugar and 2 tablespoon water.

5.Now, in the same oil fry bay leaves and cumin seeds.

6.When the seeds sputters add the paste mixture.

7.When Oil starts coming from the paste put the shredded cabbage and mix well.

8.Cook for 3 mins ,then put fried potatoes,chopped tomatoes and ginger paste and cover till cooked (you can add little water if required)

9.Just before closing the heat put garam masala and coriander leaves.

Serve 🙂
